Reliving #IOcongress2018 via my imported tweets. This mural was just wonderful and it was such an easy and clear way to get kids local to the congress involved in birds. It could easily be done for every major #ornithology conference. #EOU2025 Bangor, Wales or #IOcongress2026 Mexico anyone?

And the #iocongress2018 tag shows me that a few others have migrated their tweets over to Bluesky. Hope more will follow!

Now they're here, I can't help but search my old tweets to see which were brought over! So many make for a great 'blast from the past' moments. #iocongress2018 tag has plenty inc. my critique feedback thread of the event. Still relevant ahead of IOC2026?

OK. I know there is loads more to cover, but my lift has arrived and I am now on vacation (yaay!). Please, feel free to comment, add other topics within the thread to build this up for me to feed back in order to help make future events better for everyone #IOCongress2018 Thanks

PEOPLE: there was no ice-breaker event at the start of #IOCongress2018. This is especially important for students, early-careers and first time attendees. We had a great AOS early-career event mid-week, but the congress itself should build in something right at the start

FORMAT: #IOCongress2018 was rammed! From 0830 - 2230 daily - absolutely packed. I think this was too much for the full week. Having a full day-time programme (0800-1800) is fine, but pack every evening and you reduce massively the social aspect off any event

LENGTH: #IOCongress2018 was al one week. This was made longer for some bc of an excursion day mid-congress. This impacts on costs as it compulsory adds on extra day(s) for those who can lease afford it. Excursions should be option add on days at start or end of an event

And I so didn’t want to forget anyone, and someone I will not forget from #IOCongress2018 is @_erikaroper. Thanks for supporting #TWC_BIRDS in particular!

So many people to thank for a great #IOCongress2018. First up is Convenor Bob @_elner and the @IOCongress2018 team, especially Anna, for inviting us in to promote social media in #ornithology and been made to feel part of the Congress family.

And here’s the kids section of @NatureArtists Silent Skies Mural Project. Just great to get kids involved in such an inspirational project. Reminds me of something equally wonderful I saw in spring at @birdlifecyprus.

I so enjoyed ydays #IOCFuturesForum. Networking was a key thread. Social media is just one of the networks early career professionals can use. If you want to discuss this or anything else from the evening, then I’m on the #IOCsocialmediaHUB at #IOCongress2018 Sat & Sun #BOUatIOC
