Contributed to #theBOUblog to share my experiences at the #EOU2025 in Wales this summer!
๐ Big congrats to Jakub Hrouda, student at our Dept. of Ecology, for winning Best Poster at #EOU2025 (European Ornithological Union)! His work uses eBird data to reveal how birds adapt to urban environments across seasonsโvital insights for conserving migratory species in a changing world. ๐ฆ๐
Collage of photos from the European Ornithological Union (EOU) conference 2025. Clockwise from top left: an amazing plenary about robust avian science by Antica Culina with a slide on FAIR data; a tiny solar GPS transmitter, the Menai bridge at sunrise; me and my poster; Welsh flag with bonus Welsh jackdaw; Vogelwarte research group; first Guinness after 2.5 months in Switzerland; cool hummingbird mural on a house; and in the centre: Vogelwarte research group - Team Alpine Swift-Barn Owl-Dipper et al!
Itโs already been a week since #EOU2025! Fun week meeting and chatting cool bird science & geeking out at the cool tech! Presented another poster made from my tent in Bulgaria. ๐ Even got work done on the 14hr train journey, ๐ฑ but France took my Leatherman; rookie error not checking my field pack! ๐ฅฒ
How great was #EOU2025 in Bangor, Wales?!
So delighted to have presented my Masterโs thesis project on tracing the geographic origins of behavioural variation in Common Reed Warblers using genomic data. Huge thanks to @bou.org.uk and @dornitholges.bsky.social for helping make this possible!
pre-talk!

stunning south stack cliffs ๐
a peek into the circadian patterns of migration in our GPS-tracked pintails headed to the Arctic tundra ๐
Great people and very interesting topics at this #EOU2025! ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ
I had the chance to present how contrasting #environments drive #circadian pre-breeding #migration patterns in #GPS tracked northern #pintails across the #Eurasian flyway, revealing their #plasticity through steep photoperiod gradients ๐
๐ Huge congratulations to Ollie Padget on receiving the 2025 BOU Early Professional Award at #EOU2025 last week ๐
Richly deserved recognition for an outstanding initial contribution to #ornithology ๐ชถ

#EOU2025 is over!
A week of amazing bird science, meeting new and old friends, in the beautiful Wales' landscapes and @bangoruniversity.bsky.social.
Proud to present for the first time my project about #heatwaves impacts on #seabirds #ecology.
Back from an incredible #EOU2025 in @bangoruniversity.bsky.social ! Presented my work on the spatial behaviour of #GreatCormorant๐ฆ - it was fantastic to discuss with such an engaged audience and meet new and old friends. The trips around North Wales were the perfect cherry on top! #ornithology
Lady week, I had the chance to present part of my PhD results at the #EOU2025, and the article about it came out on Friday! If you want to know more about the impact of global changes on sooty albatrosses, check it out: nsojournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...
A very nice #EOU2025 @eounion.bsky.social conference in Bangor, Wales, with @thiemokarwinkel.bsky.social (hosting a symposium on #MOTUS bird tracking) and @wielandheim.bsky.social (summarizing recent advances in landbird migration studies along the Asian flyways) representing our group ๐๏ธ๐ฆ๐ก
Reflecting on a good #eou2025 conference in Bangor last week. So many good talks and researchers, including lots of really great ECRs. A highlight was an evening drink & lively chat with the fantastic @spibirds.bsky.social group. Must get my Marsh Tit data sorted for submissionโฆ #ornithology
Great fun to present at #EOU2025 in Bangor last week, and so nice to catch up with friends and colleagues from all over the world! ๐ฆ
A great week spent at #EOU2025 presenting my work on penguins and eddies, and meeting hundreds of talented bird experts. So much cool research from land and sea.
Thanks to @eounion.bsky.social for organising and @bou.org.uk for giving me a conference attendance grant to go!
Our VP of Global Market Development was across the pond contributing to a special symposium on European #MotusWTS last week during the @eounion.bsky.social โs #EOU2025 Congress.
Was super excited to present our global analysis of raptor๐ฆ๐ฆ mortality, effects of spec traits and Human footprint @eounion.bsky.social #EOU2025 in Bangor this week. Attended so many interesting talks and I'm thankful to all the new friends and connections made in the bird world :) #RaptorResearch

Had a great time at #EOU2025 meeting ornithologists from across Europe, seeing their work and exploring a beautiful part of North Wales.
Thanks to @eounion.bsky.social and the local organisers @bangoruniversity.bsky.social for a brilliant conference and for the poster prize!
Did anyone spot the 'typo' in my #EOU2025 poster? ๐
@cateden91.bsky.social is doing great work in her PhD on the links between aquatic invertebrates and Spotted Flycatchers in NW England, and the role of aquatic subsidies in buffering bird declines. #EOU2025 #ornithology
Thanks for a great #EOU2025 . If you are already thinking about where to go next, why not consider the #NSO2026 to present your avian research?
Keep an eye on the webpage for important dates and news about the event: nordicsocietyoikos.glueup.com/event/nordic...

I had fun rambling on about aquatic insects and their benefit for insectivorous birds at #EOU2025 yesterday. Going home with lots of cool bird research in my brain & joy from catching up with friendly faces ๐ (even if it does temporarily drain the life from my introverted soul) ๐ซ
Welcome to the new EOU President, Peter Pap, holding the traditional symbol of office! #EOU2025
