Age, gender, education level, income level, marital status and other socioeconomic factors are predictive of survival in kidney cancer. #ISRHT25 The variation in survival in relation to socioeconomic status warrants support, patient education and guidance for socio-economically vulnerable groups.
The survival rates in kidney cancer has been steadily improving. A trend attributed to early detection and improved treatments #ISRHT25 The picture below illustrates the mortality rate in kidney cancer since 1997.
The incidence of renal cancer is increasing, a trend attributed to the aging of the population and increased use of cross-sectional imaging #ISRHT25 Most renal tumors are detected incidentally, when conducting imaging investigations on other indications.
Routine preoperative renal tumor biopsy leads to cost savings due to reduced over-treatment of benign renal masses and consequentially reduced surgery costs #ISRHT25 Read the full article at medicaljournalssweden.se/SJU/article/...

Many people believe tumors "eat sugar" to survive- but they also need fat! Growing tumors need fat to build new cell membranes. Our group is trying to treat ACC cell cultures with a new drug targeting this process: Denifanstat. A useful review below:

One misconception is that ACC is always very aggressive. This is not always the case, with some patients surviving for years. One of our projects are studying this using tumor samples collected over many years here in Uppsala. Why do some patients live much longer? #ISRHT25
We urgently need better therapy💊 for ACC and we are currently conducting a study comparing different types of adjuvant treatments (chemotherapy given after surgery). It may come as a surprise to learn we still dont know which chemotherapy is the best to prevent recurrance in ACC... #ISRHT25 #ACC
My current projects are all about Adrenocortical Carcinoma (or ACC) which is a rare cancer that currently lack effective treatment. Since it is so rare there are many unknowns yet here in Uppsala we have a unique opportunity to study ACC since our hospital has focused on it since the 1980s! #ISRHT25
Hi! I'm Adam, a medical doctor and 2nd year phd student at Uppsala University. I recently finished my residency and my research is focused on adrenal tumors #ISRHT25
That was a glimpse into my work in the SEED project at Uppsala University 🎓 Thanks for following along as part of Introduction to Scientific Research #ISRHT25! Curious to learn more? Check out our research here: www.uu.se/en/departmen...

We are also evaluating a new treatment, RO-DBT, which targets emotional overcontrol in adolescents with anorexia nervosa who haven’t recovered with existing methods. This work aims to develop better, more effective support for young people with eating disorders.
#ISRHT25 #EatingDisorders #RO-DBT
My research focuses on how difficulties with emotion regulation and loneliness are linked to eating disorders in young people and adults. These factors may help explain why some individuals don’t benefit from existing treatments.

I’m part of the SEED (Severe and Enduring Eating Disorders) team at @uu.se’s Child and Adolescent Psychiatry research group. We study psychological, social, and biological factors behind long-term eating disorders and evaluate new ways to support recovery.

👋 Hi! I’m Pia, a PhD student studying eating disorders in young people and adults. As part of the course Introduction to Scientific Research #ISRHT25 at @uu.se, I’ll be sharing 5 posts about my work. Looking forward to connecting and sharing more! 🌍✨

👋 Midwife, pelvic floor enthusiast 💪, and pregnancy researcher. I explore what makes some babies grow bigger than expected. Science + care = my daily mix!

How is the research going??🤔
I’m analyzing lipid data from a cohort of pregnancies. Early results suggest certain lipid types in plasma and placenta are different in mothers of LGA babies. It’s exciting to see potential biomarkers emerging!
#ISRHT25 #DataAnalysis #PlacentaResearch #Lipidomics
Why it’s interesting
Understanding these lipid changes could help predict which pregnancies are at risk of LGA, allowing for earlier interventions. It also gives insight into fetal metabolism and how maternal diet or metabolism affects growth.

Curious about maternal lipids and fetal growth? Stay tuned—my article on this research will be coming soon! I’ll be sharing updates from my journey here.

👋 Hi! I’m Sonia, a PhD student studying pregnancy and fetal growth. I focus on how different lipid types and metabolites in maternal blood and the placenta are linked to babies being born larger than expected (LGA).
