Last day of the 2025 #IceAgeIsland season so we took our students to the @jerseyheritage.bsky.social exhibition of early prehistory. Quite emotional to see the teeth, tools, plaquettes, bone heaps & other material we have worked on these past 15 years all so beautifully displayed.

Today is the lowest tide of the season & we're preparing to venture into the offshore reef of the Violet Bank. We are looking for stone artefacts made by Neanderthal people. Here we were, under sunnier conditions, two years ago. It's such a remarkable place to work. #IceAgeIsland

The tip of what would have been a very elegant and symmetrical Moustetian scraper. Made over 50,000 years ago in a stunning red jasper. Lost or discarded in the cave of La Cotte de St Brelade, where a hearth fire consumed and fractured the tool.
