A descriptively named shagbark hickory tree is encased in layer of ice. The sky was gray, the trees were gray so there was very little color to remove to make this a black and white photo. I am pretty sure that school was cancelled that day since it was a Tuesday, and I was out in the woods taking photos. No E-Learning days back in 2007.

This nearly black and white photo was taken after an ice storm. The buds of the beech tree leaves are the little brow tips on the twigs. The buds are very hardy. In our 45+ years of living in the woods, I don't think I've ever seen them damaged by the temperature.

Beech leaves buds were encased in ice by a winter storm a few years ago. I thought of this photo today because we had a light skim of sleet and ice overnight, nothing this heavy though. #photography #winter #ice_storm #leaves
