Against a red background, text reads: “In 2008, Iman Morales was experiencing a mental health crisis when police arrived on the scene. Rather than de-escalating or following NYPD protocol to deploy an inflatable cushion to break Iman’s fall, the NYPD fired a taser at Mr. Morales while he stood on a 2nd story awning and he plummeted to his death. A week later, Lt. Michael Pigott, who had given the order, committed suicide.” Below, a picture of Iman Morales (left) and Lt. Michael Pigott (right).

All New Yorkers deserve to feel safe. Too often, police escalate crises, harming + traumatizing the very people who need care the most. As the stories of #ImanMorales, #MohamedBah, #KawaskiTrawick, #WinRozario, and far too many others prove, the NYPD is the wrong agency to respond to #MentalHealth.
