massive tanks and basins stand silent in the stench of rust and moisture.

“The End” revisits a mining landscape that has been stripped (mostly at ground level) of many of its details. In the background, one can make out gallery entrances; to the right, a wagon and rails; above, the beginning of a ceiling dotted with bolts (elements designed to prevent collapse by holding layers of rock together). In the foreground, a barefoot girl dances, indifferent to her surroundings. I saw in this juxtaposition a kind of answer to the question: What should we do with this modern legacy? With this bygone era? What comes next? — Dancing on the past as the simplest way to turn the present into a celebration.
In the midst of packing, I found some of my first paintings.
Created over ten years ago, they stem from my fascination with industrial ruins and the echoes of modernity.
