A bluet; a blue and black damselfly, holding the tip of a slanted swamp horsetail stalk. The stalk is bright green, round, with one joint visible; it is black with "teeth". The cone on the tip is bent over, and the bluet clings to it at about a 90ยฐ angle, her body off to the left. She has bent her abdomen almost double, so that the end now touches the cone just under her head; we see the white underside. Her 4 delicate wings lie along the direction of the body; in a normal flying posture, the abdomen will extend beyond the wings, but in this position, the wings reach out about 1/3 of the body length. Background: more horsetail stalks, and the shallow, muddy water of the pond.
A boreal bluet lays her eggs in the cone of a swamp horsetail. New blog post: wanderinweeta.blogspot.com/2025/07/20-s... #VancouverIsland #Insects #Invertebrates #Wetlands #InsectReproduction #Nature
