Portrait of Emile Flöge was first exhibited at the 18th exhibition of the Vienna Secession.it is kept at the Vienna Museum in its permanent collection. It features a dark background of Emile’s full length portrait wearing a blue robe of her own design flanked with Klimt’s signature gold leaf in her dress. Green, red& blue flowers behind her head have an ornamental effect with some saying it resembles a Japanese leaf fan. Two squares are on the lower right, one with Klimt’s signature and date and the other his monogram. The motifs recall Japanese signature seals. Klimt dated the painted 1902 when Flöge was 28 though he didn’t consider it finished.
