Sweet track during a winters visit. Created from Hazel rods and Oak
Boggy vegetation throughout the Sweet track
A real ethereal experience approaching the Sweet track. Dense boggy vegetation pathway an incredibly lush peat based landscape
Built during the Neolithic period the ‘Sweet track’ located within the Somerset levels dates back to 3806 BC
A past visit during the winter with less overgrowth, it is a spectacular sight to see
Interesting insight🎥 from the South West Heritage Trust

Its #internationalbogday so I'm going to suggest you all watch 'From the Dark' which is excellently Irish film about a peat bog that has zero Irish cliches and a pretty kick ass female lead.
It’s International Bog Day - so celebrate the brilliance of these highly unique habitats / in Scotland for sure!! #InternationalBogDay @plantlifeuk.bsky.social

As well as being an internationally rare habitat, the Lye Valley supports over 20 species of plant rare in Oxfordshire of which 14 are on the England Red List. It also hosts ten species of rare and 27 species of nationally scarce invertebrates. #internationalbogday #BogFlowers
The Lye Valley, or Hogley Bog as was, is an 8,000 year-old internationally rare habitat, a tufa-forming valley-head alkaline spring fen. It represents 1.5 ha of only 19 ha of this habitat left in all England. It's in Oxford, and is free to visit!
