For #InternationalDayOfPersonsWithDisabilities, we’re remembering Agnes Hunt (1866-1948), the first orthopaedic nurse.

Her own experiences of a painful hip condition shaped her patient care and the field of orthopaedic nursing.

The wonderful International Day of Persons with Disabilities may almost be over in my time zone.

But I am happy to report that I stood on business today as an HoH woman!

I am proud to be part of the global disability community.

Never let the stories that people tell themselves about your value and potential ever stop you from seeing yourself as you truly are. And as you continue to grow to become.

This year’s theme, fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress, reminds us that many disabled people in Canada still face poverty, discrimination, institutionalization, and systemic barriers to essential supports.

Get help from your university’s disability advisor
Most universities have resources to help neurodivergent students, which can be discussed with a disability advisor or the learning support team. They can help you get the adjustments that you need for the duration of your studies.
There are always people who can help you, so don’t be afraid to ask for support!

Boundaries are essential
You are going to meet a lot of people at once and will engage in high levels of
social activity.
If you find that your social battery is running out, make sure you do what’s best for you and do whatever helps you to recharge. You don’t have to explain yourself to anyone.

Sensory overload and executive dysfunction are real challenges
This one took me the longest to learn. I used to think success meant doing everything full time, getting top grades, and never asking for extensions. But for me, success has sometimes meant slowing down, taking a break, or working differently.
That’s not failing, that’s adapting! And that’s something to be proud of.

New Cleveland program pairs seniors with snow-shoveling volunteers The Snow Heroes pilot program is an initiative that's part of the city’s age-friendly communities plan, which aims to keep seniors in their homes as they age.

This is what #InternationalDayOfPersonswithDisabilities is about: breaking barriers. The Chore program has helped seniors & people with disabilities complete household tasks for several years. Now we’re piloting snow shoveling! Grateful to our volunteers! www.ideastream.org/community/20...
