Here's one that I've only ever shown here rarely. This is "Weston Hall" by John Cooper. It is undated but I suspect that it comes from between 1931 & 1933. Weston Hall is just a few miles from Cooper's family home at Menston in Yorkshire. #JohnCooper #Yorkshire #EastLondonGroup
I thought that it might be fun to continue the Portmeirion theme from yesterday! Here's "View near Portmeirion" by John Cooper from 1936. Cooper also painted "The Terrace, Portmeirion" in 1936 (sadly, not known to survive) along with several other views of that part of North Wales. #JohnCooper
With the Winter Olympics in full flow, now may be an appropriate moment to show "Alpine Love" by John Cooper from 1930. It is in the collection at Manchester City Art Gallery. #JohnCooper #EastLondonGroup #WinterOlympics
This is one that only came to light in 2025, prior to that, I had no idea that it might still exist: the Group showed in excess of 730 paintings during their eight year career & I can only account for c.140!! This "Wharfedale Farm" by John Cooper from 1933. #JohnCooper
Good morning, Honor @honor.bsky.social & thank you: that is most kind. May I take this opportunity to wish you & yours a Very Merry Christmas & a Happy & Healthy New Year.
Here's another one by John Cooper that has no title but was also painted in Snowdonia, I believe, in 1936. #JohnCooper
This is "Stone Cottages" by John Cooper from the collection at the Hepworth, Wakefield. The painting is undated but I suspect that it comes from 1936 & that it could be either his exhibited paintings of "The Pink Mountain" or "The Road to Snowdon" rom that year #JohnCooper #EastLondonGroup
This is "The Anchorage" by John Cooper from 1935. It is in the collection @LeedsMuseums. When I first saw this painting I had no idea where it might have been painted but it eventually dawned on me that it had to have been Appledore because of Braunton lighthouse in the distance! #JohnCooper
With #StormBram being in the news this morning, I thought that "Storm, Lyme Regis" by John Cooper from 1935 might be appropriate. Cooper painted extensively in & around Lyme & along the Dorset coast &, thankfully, several of those paintings are still known to exist. #JohnCooper #LymeRegis #Dorset
This is "The Wharfe at Arthington Viaduct" by John Cooper from c.1933. The title is "descriptive" because he never exhibited a picture with this title & the reverse of the painting holds no clues. It is "possible" that it is "Valley of the Wharfe" from 1933 but I can't be sure #JohnCooper #Yorkshire
On a rather wet & miserable #MondayMorning I thought that I might try to lift the mood by posting something that might remind us of summer days gone by. This is "Lyme Regis" by John Cooper from 1934. #JohnCooper #LymeRegis #Dorset
This is "Appledore" by John Cooper from 1935. The tower on the horizon was Chanter's Folly which was, very sadly, demolished in October 1952. It had fallen in to disrepair & it had been deemed to be unsafe. #JohnCooper #Appledore #EastLondonGroup
This is "The Boatyard" by John Cooper from 1935. I'd love to know where it might have been painted but, to date, all efforts to locate the spot have evaded me. At the time, Cooper was painting in Lyme Regis & Charmouth so I think that it must be along the Dorset coast. #JohnCooper #EastLondonGroup
This was sold recently as "Wharfedale Farm" by John Cooper which is undated but might very possibly his exhibited painting of "Farm" from the Group's fifth show at Lefevre in November/December 1933. #JohnCooper #Wharfedale #Yorkshire #EastLondonGroup
This is an untitled landscape by John Cooper that I believe might actually be his painting of "The Road to Snowdon" from 1936, judging by other works of his that I have seen & his catalogue listings from that year. #JohnCooper #EastLondonGroup
This is "Post Office Wireless Station, Rugby: A Control Panel" by John Cooper. Commissioned by the GPO in 1935. A copy of this is coming up for sale this coming Saturday here: tinyurl.com/2m49kxas The bids currently stand at just £40, so well worth a shot if you're interested! #JohnCooper
Here's one that I haven't shown for a very long time.: this is "The International Telephone Exchange, London" by John Cooper which was a poster design that was commissioned & printed for the GPO in 1935. #JohnCooper #EastLondonGroup
This is "The Wild Shores" by John Cooper which is in the collection at Leeds Museums. As far as I am aware, Cooper never exhibited a painting with this title but, amongst his catalogue of work, "The Sea Breeze" from 1931 stands out as a good looking candidate for the correct title. #JohnCooper

This is "Wharfedale after rain" by John Cooper from 1932. It appeared at auction about three years ago, along with three other paintings by him, all of which had been owned by an elderly art dealer who was retiring. Prior to that, all four paintings had been "unknown". #JohnCooper #EastLondonGroup
As an alternative to Cecil Osborne's iconic view of "Sunday Morning, Farringdon Road" here's another one from the first Group show at Alex. Reid & Lefevre in 1929. This is "The Fight, 1929" by John Cooper not unsurprisingly from 1929! #SundayMorning #JohnCooper #EastLondonGroup
As an alternative to Brynhild Parker's painting of "Interior" here's one that I haven't shown for a while. This is "Knaresborough" by John Cooper from 1932. #JohnCooper #Knaresborough #Yorkshire #SaturdayMorning #EastLondonGroup

Here's another "cooling" image which I hope might help during this spell of hot weather. This is "Alpine Love" by John Cooper from 1930. It is in the collection at Manchester City Art Gallery. #JohnCooper #EastLondonGroup
This is "Oast Houses, Kent" by John Cooper from 1934. Some years ago, thanks to a contact here, the location of this one was identified as being Forge Farm between Eridge & Groombridge in Kent, highlighted in yellow on the map, courtesy of The National Library Of Scotland #JohnCooper #OastHouses
This is "Appledore" by John Cooper from 1935. The painting has been exhibited on more than one occasion with this title but, in the Lefevre catalogue from 1935 it is listed as ""The Prince of Wales", Appledore" which was the white building in the centre of the painting. #JohnCooper #Appledore
This is a "new" ELG image that I stumbled across online recently on an auction house reporting website. This is "Wharfedale Farm" by John Cooper from 1933. The sale was some years ago but I can't remember when. I'd love to know where the painting is now. #JohnCooper #Wharfedale #EastLondonGroup
