#RichardDiamond TV ep #4.06 "The Lovely Fraud" (16-Aug-60).
Diamond ends up in a #JohnnyDollar ep. Otherwise a pretty cookie cutter insurance fraud ep.
The labwork and cop forensics were so #Dragnet. It even has a now post-Dragnet actor the ubiquitous Jack Kruschen.

#RichardDiamond TV 3.34 cont'd.
As son I heard the Dr Braun I immediately said I know that voice. Never seen Howard McNear but know him from #Suspense, #JohnnyDollar & loads more!
Even better Jonathan Hole plays the same pompous bank manAger from #Dragnet TV ep #4.30 "The Big Number". #HeadCanon!
#RichardDiamond TV ep #3.22 "The Client" (26-Oct-59).
Think this was an old #JohnnyDollar ep?
Rick heads to Mexico so they cast all the Latin looking actors from the cowboy movies. I liked the night shooting as when this show isn't sundrenched it works far better.

#RichardDiamond Radio ep #139 "The Frank Taylor Case" (13-Jun-52).
Ep doesn't exist but script is below.
Straight forward ep of extortion. Just one clue really to work on and it worked out simply. Again I suspect this was possibly recycled to be a #JohnnyDollar ep?

#RichardDiamond Radio 138 cont'd.
Actually it was emeralds. Was it emeralds in #JohnnyDollar too? Can't recall.
1950s rabbit holes:
Rueben's Restaurent: famous exclusive Park Avenue restaurant
B-B Gun: air gun
Louis the Strangler: real life killer made into a 1932 movie (may be AI bullshit?)
#RichardDiamond Radio 138 cont'd.
The #JohnnyDollar ep is better as it's far more in depth a procedural series than what this show does. This ep clearly highlighted the doll as being important far too early in proceedings so you can instantly guess it'll be drugs.
I liked the brutal murders in this.
#RichardDiamond Radio ep #138 "The Black Doll" (06-Jun-52).
Ep doesn't exist but script it below.
I could tell from the title I'd heard this story before and indeed it was also a #JohnnyDollar ep namely Radio ep #172 "The Black Doll Matter" (21-Jul-53).
www.otrr.org/FILES/Script...
#RichardDiamaond Radio 137 cont'd.
As the ep doesn't existing we can't compare those 2 titans of radio namely Bob Bailey and Dick Powell.
A foot job wasn't the same thing in 1952!
Gracie was played by Gloria Blondell of #ILoveAMystery.
Great plot can see why Neuman re-used it on #JohnnyDollar!
#RichardDiamond Radio ep #137 "The Carpenter Case" (30-May-52).
Ep is lost but script is below.
Wait one sec I know this!
This is #JohnnyDollar Radio eps #232-236 "The McCormack Matter [1] to [5]" (03-Oct-55 to 07-Oct-55)! Yes E. Jack Newman's name is on the pdf indeed.
www.otrr.org/FILES/Script...
#RichardDiamond Radio 133 cont'd.
Despite being set in NY I forget it's made in Hollywood. So on the script there is a Bill Bailey listed at the start but on the hand written notes on the last page it's Bob Bailey!!! Nice to see #JohnnyDollar in #RichardDiamond even if Bob wasn't cast in YTJD yet.
#Dragnet TV ep #4.20 "The Big Family" (13-Jan-55).
Adapts Radio ep #81 (28-Dec-50).
I loved the radio possibly as it was very reminiscent of a #JohnnyDollar ep.
Boy it was bucketing down. That was in studio?
The horrid family members were fun.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZhJ...
#RichardDiamond Radio ep #129 "The Enigma of Big Ed" (04-Apr-52).
Diamond investigates a steel plant with a high rate of fatal accidents.
I'm sure this was a #JohnnyDollar ep? I thought maybe Radio ep #44 "The Dead First-Helpers" (11-Apr-50) but it's not. Hmmm?
archive.org/details/OTRR...
#RichardDiamond Radio ep #123 "The Miami Case" (22-Feb-52).
Diamond heads to Miami to solve a murder. Was this also a #JohnnyDollar story? Not one of the existing ones I think. Good scenario as it fooled me which TBF isn't hard.
www.otrr.org/FILES/Script...
#RichardDiamond Radio ep 118 "The Simpson Case" (18-Jan-52).
Ahaaa Parley Baer alert! I could pick Parley out of a crowd by now!
This story I've definitely heard before on a different Radio series. Maybe a #JohnnyDollar or maybe #TheWhistler ep?
Arrgh can't remember!

#Dragnet Radio ep #237 "The Big TV" (02-Mar-54).
The missing person detail eps do feel like #JohnnyDollar eps at times but also they are quite rare
Good ep albeit the titular TV is in just one sentence of the script where we learn that the LA cop TV show produced a lead.
archive.org/details/OTRR...
#RichardDiamond Radio ep #88 "Little Chiva" (23-Mar-51).
I heard this story already on my #JohnnyDollar walkthrough where it was Radio ep #174 "The Voodoo Matter" (04-Aug-53). There are many a tweak between the two scripts mind.
archive.org/details/OTRR...
#RichardDiamond Radio ep #77 "Nathan Beeker Case" (05-Jan-51).
Eps #76 and #77 are loast but they were the last eps on NBC. The show returns a few weeks later on ABC.
Only the script exists.
This was surely an old #TheWhistler ep or will be a future #JohnnyDollar ep?
www.otrr.org/FILES/Script...
#RichardDiamond Radio ep #66 "The Oklahoma Cowboy Murder Case" (27-Sep-50).
This was basically a #JohnnyDollar adventure with better gags.
About 10 minutes in I went "Hey that's Barton Yarborough!" and lo it was indeed the former #ILoveAMystery and current #Dragnet star.
archive.org/details/OTRR...
#RichardDiamond Radio ep #61 "The Evans Farmer Case" (23-Aug-50).
This ep was more up #JohnnyDollar 's strasse! Again I love how Diamond and Levinson keep bumping into each other at murder scenes. There is nothing new in any plot so it's all in the comedy and charisma.
archive.org/details/OTRR...
#RichardDiamond Radio 52 cont'd.
This ep is only comparable to #JohnnyDollar Radio ep #86 "The Stanley Springs Matter" (10-Mar-51). In that ep Edmond O'Brien's wife Olga San Juan makes a surprise co-star appearance!
Who is best Hollywood power couple Powell/Allyson or O'Brien/San Juan?
#Dragnet TV 1.14 cont'd.
After dozens of Radio eps listened to since 2020 featuring the legendary Parley Baer ( #Suspense, #Escape, #TheWhistler, Yours Truly #JohnnyDollar) I finally get to see him in the flesh as he played the DA in this ep!!! He's a bit younger than I thought!!!!
#RichardDiamond Radio ep #40 "To Guard a Seal" (05-Feb-50).
#JohnnyDollar had a prize pig, singing mouse or prize dog to guard in various eps so Richard Diamond now has a performing seal ep.
This is pure magic altogether. The comedy with Otis and Levinson is God tier.
archive.org/details/OTRR...
#ILoveAMystery Radio 1 to 15 cont'd.
It suffers a bit from that daily Monday to Friday serial aspect in that the first 3 minutes of the 15 minutes just tells you what happened yesterday. Also it's done by a narrator rather than cleverly like in the #JohnnyDollar dailies where they use a phone call.
#RichardDiamond Radio ep #10 "The Tom Waxman Bombing Case" (26-Jun-49).
The story is the same as #JohnnyDollar Radio ep #171 "The Shayne Bombing Matter" (14-Jul-53) but as both serials are very different in tone you wouldn't notice a recycled script that's been tweaked.
archive.org/details/OTRR...
#RichardDiamond Radio 4 cont'd.
From Charles Russell's #JohnnyDollar quip I expected a song after each ep but I didn't realise they would be really cute as they grow the relationship with Dick & Helen nor are they separate to the main ep.
Virginia Gregg later plays Dollar's gf Betty from 1957 on.
#RichardDiamond Radio ep 2 cont'd.
In the finale Diamond shoot 3 mobsters which does maybe reduce this to being a type of comic strip or juvenile series. When #JohnnyDollar has a shoot out it tends to be less glamorous and more tense but Dollar is a more hardboiled show even under Charles Russell.
#RichardDiamond Radio ep 2 cont'd.
The set up is pure 1940s but surely it must move into the '50s or be left behind. Saying that the wisecracks and charm should ensure this stays widely popular.
I'm disappointed the scenario is such basic noir and doesn't have #JohnnyDollar insurance complexity.
As my #Dragnet walkthrough is about to spread across several media from 1952 on so I need a pure radio show for my walks/workouts.
So I'm putting a placeholder down for my BlueSky walkthrough of "Richard Diamond, Private Detective". (1/2).
Sorry #JohnnyDollar but it's time I did another detective.

OMG so could be a #JohnnyDollar crossover. But alas 1930-50s the idea of a crossover simply didn't exist on Radio/TV and never between networks.
Wish I'd started doing a list of tasks folk do whilst being interviewed.
