They’d been playing hide-and-seek all morning; his brothers and sisters paired up with the others so they could improve their tracking skills. With each new hiding spot Juniper would hear the various exclamations of Taash and Bellara after they’d been found. She’d almost tripped over Harding earlier when the dwarf tried to use dirt and twigs to mask her scent on the ground. Juniper drifts in and out of one thought to another as Assan dozes in her lap. Absently petting his soft feathers she begins to hum a song Ma Tamora taught her after rescuing her from the slavers. Birds high in the trees fall silent as her voice drifts upwards. The wind rustles the trees less and less as the song continues, a tranquility settling over her clearing. A family of nugs cautiously investigate the sound, settling underneath the berry bush to Juniper’s left. So caught up in the moment, Juniper doesn’t realize she has an audience until her voice trails off and is met with soft applause. She doesn’t startle, but Assan does; instantly alert for danger that doesn’t appear.
