A green knit scarf started with a "flat", purled section on the bottom, with a "nub" or bulge where the attempt at a chevron in the middle pushed downwards.
Since I had about a third of the cake of Caron Macchiato Cakes yarn left, I've been planning to make a knit scarf with what's left.
The first plan is a knit-in-the-round idea with a small chevron down both sides. This is NOT the way to do this.

A cardigan cuff in the process of being knitted with circular needles
I think knitting cuffs is the most miserable part of knitting a sweater.
Magic loop is great but slows you down, short circulars make your wrists hurt and knitting rib on DPNs is just torturing yourself.
There’s gotta be a better way of doing this.

The crown of a blue and brown knit hat. The decreases have been worked at four points so they make kind of an X shape, and the stripes which go around the hat make a square at the top.
The top of a green and tan hat, modeled on a mannequin head. It is sort of gathered at the crown but not too lumpy.
Some hand-knitting techniques translate easily to the machine, but others... not so much. I've been trying different methods for hat decreases to see which is easiest and still looks good. Details & side views at the blog:
