#Easter Sunday, 1942: April 5th that year. It’s the middle of the Indian Ocean raid (31 March-10 April). The #KidoButai striking force sank five ships, including the heavy cruisers #Dorsetshire and #Cornwall. Sixty #RAF aircraft were destroyed and some 500 allied personnel killed. #NavalHistory #IJN

#OTD April 19 1940, IJN #Urakaze #浦風 was launched at #Fujinagata shipyard, #Osaka. She escorted the #KidoButai at Pearl Harbor, Midway, and Guadalcanal. Urakaze was part of Kurita's Center Force at Leyte Gulf, then torpedoed and sunk by USS Sealion one month later in the Taiwan Strait. 1/2
