Here is the winterbourne spring (top left) just over the road from Sascombe Vineyard, before it flows into a lake managed as a Tench/Carp fishery, and then on downstream for 1.5 km to join the River Kennett.

1.5 km S from where it joins the River Kennett, this tributary flows from some small spring fed lakes, latterly this interesting looking one, completely screened by scrub, water clear at least on the upstream end.

The River Kennett headwaters tributary takes a relatively natural route past The Thickets after being driven ramrod straight through a Cambridgeshire field ditch, water looking a bit murky.

Along the headwaters of the River Kennett, some #treeflowers: Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), Crab? Apple (Malus sp.) & Wych Elm (Ulmus glabra).
And a once splendid crop of, I assume Ganoderma bracket fungi.

From its confluence with the River Kennett, its 1st significant - tho' still rather small - tributary runs S, along the Suffolk/Cambridgeshire border, through a field with no buffer strip towards The Thickets wood. #chalkstreams #Kirtling #Cowlinge #Suffolk #Cambridgeshire 16/22
