Lesser Spotted Fritillary A small orange and cream butterfly with black speckles, blue eyes and a wingspan of between 15 and 23mm found in the southern Palearctic region. Here’s a description from the EuroButterflies website: Generally this species is more heavily marked than the spotted fritillary Melitaea didyma (Spotted Fritillary) with which it often flies. The upperside black border is solid and uniform usually touching the post discal arches. The underside hindwing marginal spots are approximately triangular rather than rounded. The definitive feature is the presence of a small vein that closes the cell in the hindwing of the current species.
