Today In Labor History March 27, 1993: The London office of the anarchist website and journal, Freedom, was bombed by fascists. Freedom, which started as a newspaper in 1886, was created by volunteers that included Peter Kropotkin.

Δημήτρης Δημητρόπουλος: Η Εκδοτική Ιστορία του «Προς Τους Νέους» του Kropotkin από το 1886 ως τον Μεσοπόλεμο Το καλοκαίρι του 1880 ο Peter Kropotkin δημοσιεύει στην εφημερίδα Le Révolté, την οποία εξέδιδε κατά την περίοδο παραμονής του στη Γενεύη, ένα κείμενο σε συνέχειες με τίτλο «Aux jeunes gens». Σύντομα το κείμενο αυτό εκδίδεται και σε χωριστό φυλλάδιο, στο Παρίσι, και σε αγγλική μετάφραση στο Λονδίνο. Πρόκειται για ένα κείμενο άμεσο, ζωντανό και ενθουσιώδες. Απευθύνεται – σε δεύτερο ενικό πρόσωπο – στον νέο άνθρωπο, και ειδικότερα στον νέο γιατρό, επιστήμονα, δικηγόρο, μηχανικό, δάσκαλο, καλλιτέχνη, θέτοντας σε κάθε έναν από αυτούς τα ηθικά διλήμματα, με τα οποία θα βρεθούν αντιμέτωποι εάν αποφασίσουν να ασκήσουν με εντιμότητα το επάγγελμα που επέλεξαν. Κατόπιν απευθύνεται, επίσης σε δεύτερο πρόσωπο, στο νέο εργάτη και στη νέα γυναίκα-μητέρα, και, αφού τους υπενθυμίσει όσα αντιμετωπίζουν καθημερινά από την εκμετάλλευση που υφίστανται, τονίζει ότι η στράτευση τους στο σοσιαλιστικό αγώνα αποτελεί γι’ αυτούς καθήκον. Η κατάληξη αυτή άλλωστε, η προσχώρηση δηλαδή και συμμετοχή στον αγώνα, αποτελεί κοινή συνισταμένη των επιχειρημάτων του Kropotkin, αφορά όλες τις κοινωνικές και επαγγελματικές ομάδες στις οποίες επιλέγει να απευθυνθεί, και κατ’ αυτόν αποτελεί το φυσικό επακόλουθο της στάσης κάθε ανθρώπου που θέλει να διατηρήσει την εντιμότητα και την αξιοπρέπειά του. Η διαπραγμάτευση γίνεται με λογικά επιχειρήματα, τα οποία καταλήγουν όμως στην ανάδειξη της ηθικής διάστασης των πραγμάτων και σε επίκληση του θυμικού. Το κείμενο του Kropotkin είναι γραμμένο απλά και εύληπτα. Καταπιάνεται με καθημερινά πρακτικά προβλήματα και αποτελεί ένα αγωνιστικό κάλεσμα για τους νέους, τους νέους στην καρδιά και το πνεύμα, όπως σημειώνεται χαρακτηριστικά στην πρώτη ήδη παράγραφο. Δεν περιέχει φιλοσοφικές η οικονομικές αναλύσεις ούτε προαπαιτεί θεωρητική κατάρτιση από τον αναγνώστη, προκειμένου αυτός να κατανοήσει το περιεχόμενο του. Λέξεις όπως αναρχισμός, αναρχικοί, κομμουνισμός, κομμουνιστές απουσιάζουν από το πρωτότυπο, ο συγγραφέας όμως με το κάλεσμά του ζητά από τους νέους να πυκνώσουν τις γραμμές των σοσιαλιστών και να παλέψουν για την επανάσταση. Η επιλογή του όρου «σοσιαλιστές» είναι συμβατή με τον τρόπο αυτοπροσδιορισμού, που ήταν εν χρήσει στη Δυτική Ευρώπη από τις αναρχικού προσανατολισμού ομάδες κατά την εποχή που γράφει ο Kropotkin. Ταυτόχρονα όμως η επιλογή αυτή ίσως είχε επιπτώσεις στη μεταγενέστερη διάδοση και στην αποδοχή του έργου, τουλάχιστον όσον αφορά τον ελληνικό χώρο που θα μάς απασχολήσει εδώ.
