The problem with lifeboats is that they’re temporary. You climb in because the water below is all hunger jagged mouths of waves snapping at the wreckage. A narrow little promise that says stay still and you won’t sink. The sea keeps circling, rows of white foam like grinning jaws. Because the truth is it was never meant to travel. Just to hover without direction surviving. And that’s the quiet danger of it: a lifeboat can keep you alive for a very long time in a sea of teeth but it is not escape.

The problem with lifeboats
is that they’re temporary.
