SUNNY SAHAM. Saham was rescued along with five other young lions illegally purchased as ‘trophy pets’. Some of the lions were abandoned in the desert to starve, others confiscated, & some left tied up in the city. We must fight back against the traffickers. Lions are not pets. #Kuwait6
Shujaa and his brother Saham were abandoned in the streets of Kuwait when they were no longer wanted – probably because they were getting too big to handle. Now they have their own 4 acres of natural African habitat to share.

AZIZA QUEEN OF THE GRASSLANDS
Aziza has blossomed since arriving at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary in South Africa. Once a nervous member of the #Kuwait6 rescued from the illegal trophy-pet trade, she now roams, watches and explores as close as possible to the freedom she lost.
AZIZA’S CHRISTMAS TREAT. In the 18 months since she arrived at ADIWS, South Africa after being rescued from the illegal pet trade in Kuwait, she is the most transformed of the #Kuwait6. No longer the nervous, pacing lioness we first encountered, but now confident & inquisitive.
SHUJAA AND SAHAM SIDE BY SIDE
Shujaa and Saham are 2 of the #Kuwait6 lions rescued from Kuwait after being abandoned as “trophy pets.” Now living at ADIWS in South Africa, they love to roam and relax in their large habitat, and using their old travel crates for fun and snoozing.
Playful Aziza was a victim of the illegal trophy pet trade and was the last lion to make up our #Kuwait6. Nervous and shy Aziza has certainly found her confidence at the #ADIWildlifeSanctuary in South Africa. #StopPetTrade #AnimalSanctuary
SHUJAA SEEMS TO BE WORKING OUT! 16 months after arriving at ADI Wildlife Sanctuary, SA, this #Kuwait6 lion rescued from the illegal pet trade has grown stronger & more confident with space to run. A lion’s home is never a house or backyard—let lions be lions, just like Shujaa.
SITTING PRETTY 💞 Lioness Aziza, one of the #Kuwait6 rescued from the illegal trophy pet trade in Kuwait last year, is a picture of grace & vitality as she rests in the Kakato Home Sweet Home Habitat. A regal lioness, she enjoys her days of freedom at the #ADIWildlifeSanctuary.
FROM CUB TO KING! Just over a year ago, Saif and the other members of the #Kuwait6, saved from the illegal trophy pet trade, arrived at the #ADIWildlifeSanctuary in South Africa. Saif has transformed from a once frightened cub into a strong, healthy young lion. #StopTrophyPets

#ThrowbackThursday: One year ago—the #Kuwait6 lions, once #TrophyPets, arrived in Africa. Like #GoliathAndCoralie, they live in peace at the #ADIWildlifeSanctuary, including brave Muheeb, who's battling cancer and defying the odds. 💛 www.ad-international.org/emailsignup/
Nights are cooling at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary. At bedtime, Muheeb heads into his house which has a solar powered heated floor with lots of hay to snuggle up in. ADIWS security patrols check in on all the animals at night, and Muheeb generally sleeps right through. #Kuwait6
MUHEEB UPDATE: YOU WILL LOVE THIS! Video of Muheeb playing with his ball this week, gives a sense of how he is feeling. YOU MUST watch to the end to see him roaring with the other lions! #Muheeb #Kuwait6 #ADIWildlifeSanctuary
AZIZA, OUR QUEEN FROM KUWAIT. Since her arrival at the ADIWS last year, Aziza is the most transformed of the #Kuwait6 lions becoming assertive, inquisitive and confident. She gets a lot of exercise bounding about her habitat, leaping on platforms and chasing enrichment. #ADIWS
RESCUED LION’S EASTER BOX HUNT. Saham hunts down a box filled with hay and catnip hanging in one of the trees in the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary South Africa.
Saham was once a #TrophyPet but was abandoned in Kuwait City when his owner tired of his status symbol.
#Kuwait6
Aziza was the daintiest & most nervous of the #Kuwait6 lions saved from the #IllegalPetTrade. She’s grown in confidence at the #ADIWildlifeSanctuary, no more hiding. She now roars strongly with the other lions and she has grown in stature, filling out & getting more muscular, but still very elegant.
Saif & Dhubiya in pursuit of a treat at #ADIWildlifeSanctuary. We aim to give the animals we rescue the space they need to express themselves & one of the great joys when we bring rescues from tiny cages to ADIWS, is to see them run for the first time.

The young lions were rescued from Kuwait’s illegal #TrophyPet trade last year and are growing fast – they’re going to be very big, very lively lions. Check comments for more about the boys and their rescue.

MUHEEB receives a heart-shaped ice lolly for #Valentine’s week at the ADIWS. These treats provide extra nutrition and hydration. This is extra important for Muheeb due to his intestinal cancer. He is really enjoying the special attention. #WildlifeSanctuary #AnimalDefendersInternational #Kuwait6
It’s Valentine’s Week at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary and here comes Lefaso with some of the treats. Looks like he’s already caught the attention of Saham (one of the #Kuwait6 lions rescued last year). Keep following us this week to see that love is all around at ADIWS.
The #Kuwait6 lions, illegal #trophypets abandoned when no longer wanted, flew to the #ADIWildlifeSanctuary in May. It was one of the most magical days of the year.
Muheeb (one of the #Kuwait6 #lions) was sedated at #ADIWildlifeSanctuary, had blood, urine, & fecal samples taken following concern that he is eating, but appears to be losing weight. We await the results. Muheeb is his usual playful self, especially enjoying his first treats of the holiday season.
