I would be remiss in not acknowledging that the designs for the #KyivSleighCoat, #GermanPatrician outfit and #WineAndHoneyDoubłet have been influenced by online brainstorming /questions /comments
Brown card USPS mailing package on an ironing board
Box wrapped in red paper
A jewelry card with two large black pearl drop earrings
Profile of a gray haired/bearded man wearing glasses with a black pearl drop and three dimensional skull earrings in his left ear
A personal bright spot on the day.
Got a late night USPS package delivery I wasn't expecting until Monday. Sort of a late Xmas present to myself thanks to @buildaguillotine.bsky.social deciding she really, really liked the #KyivSleighCoat.
Replacement black pearl earrings, w/lobster back this time
The #KyivSleighCoat has been delivered and initial reviews are in. I think the customer is satisfied.
And now Tom is feeling cranky, because the customer who commissioned the #KyivSleighCoat is being flaky about paying the rest of the cost for the labor.
The #KyivSleighCoat is off to the dry cleaners, I wanted to get any cooking smells/loose threads etc out of it before shipping. Should be on its way to the customer next Tuesday. The dry cleaners seemed impressed with its looks and construction when they found out I made it.
And now the first completed #KyivSleighCoat is an officially labeled product
🧶 #KyivSleighCoat almost done.
Faux fur hem trim attached, all that's left is the 15 leather frog closures. 🪡👗
1) #KyivSleighCoat hemmed inside and out. Just a few more French tacks to secure the lining to the shell at the hem, some trim along the hem,, and leather frog closures left to go.
#KyivSleighCoat update. Sleeve lining and shell handstitched at the cuff (wrist opening is a bit tight for the freearm on my sewing machine) and main roll line for the shawl collar pressed. Ready to hem, and then attach the front closures.
Time to start pressing seams on the #KyivSleighCoat. Got my variety of pointers/creasers and hams and sleeve boards ready to go.
#KyivSleighCoat outer shell and lining sewed together, now a whole lot of pressing seams open and flat.
Ok, food and coffee consumed, time to sew the parts of the #KyivSleighCoat together!
#KyivSleighCoat outer shell and lining pinned together, ready to be sewn together after I have some dinner.
1) #KyivSleighCoat, sewing the front pieces to the back. I pin the pockets back to keep them out of the way, and I like to stitch seams in the same direction. I start with the left front on top of the back, so I stitch from the armscye to the hem.
I was thinking, that with the #KyivSleighCoat commission nearing completion, I should have some custom labels made up, and probably a website for future commissions.
#KyivSleighCoat. Well, these additional specifications are getting a bit more involved than anticipated, but that's just how I do things. Over-engineer, over plan, strive to exceed expectations.
1) Had a moment of panic when I saw that the front edges of the #KyivSleighCoat didn't meet at the bust line...
1) both front pieces of the lining for the #KyivSleighCoat sewn together, now for some interesting fun.
1/2 of the front lining for the #KyivSleighCoat stitched together. That bust curve combined with the shawl collar is giving me fits, but the seam allowances did press out nice and flat.
Last of the basting done, now time to have some dinner and then start assembling the lining for the #KyivSleighCoat
The seam section I was having on the front pieces of the #KyivSleighCoat finally worked. The section circled in red in the second pic was having one section be an inch longer than the other before. This time it just worked.
Basting the lining and interlining pieces of the #KyivSleighCoat together.
