The community is only accessible by boat - there is no road connection to the tiny town. Updating to add - Stehekin is often right in the middle of wildfires in the summer, and it was no different over this past summer of 2025. Because of the fires, the area is surrounded by burn scars. Heavy rainfall on burn scars can cause flash flooding, bringing down debris, mud and more. By the images, that is what appears to have happened here because of the excessive rainfall in the mountains. After sunset, quiet lake waters anchor the photo with a tall dead tree reaching up on the right. Near the top of the tree, an osprey has taken up the position from which he sleeps and hunts and feasts. Above the dark hills on the far side of the lake, emanating from the lowest point in the hills, blue and pink clouds fan out in a starburst pattern. A few small sections of blue sky peek through the clouds.

A large rockface and the trunk of a tall rough-barked pine tree come together as they seem to lean into each other. The texture of the rockface, smoother and yellower on the side furthest from the tree, changes as it comes closer to the trunk. Where they meet, it appears that they are trying to mimic each other's look.
I like the way the texture of this #rockface near #LakeChelan seems to become more like the texture of the #tree trunk as they lean closely together. Buddies for life. #WeekRforRock #AlphabetChallenge

Both the grocery store and ferry charge a fee, but it's absolutely worth it! There's no way to catch a ferry from Stehekin, go down lake, and come back on the same day. So, if we wanted to shop ourselves we'd pay ~$80 for the ferry plus a hotel. #stehekin #northcascadesnationalpark #lakechelan
