A piece of sun-bleached driftwood in the foreground on the rocky volcanic rim of Crater Lake, Oregon, with the deep blue water filling the background and scattered evergreen trees and a dead tree trunk along the rim’s edge.
Driftwood on the rim of Crater Lake. Weathered wood against that impossible blue — the contrast held me here.
Sometimes the smallest subjects hold the most detail.

Moonlit night at Crater Lake, Oregon. The full moon hangs low over the caldera, casting a bright silver reflection across the still, glassy surface of the lake. Silhouetted pine trees frame the foreground and a volcanic peak rises against the deep blue, star-filled sky.

A view from the rim of Crater Lake in Oregon, looking down through evergreen trees and rocky slopes to the deep blue water of the lake, with the far rim and mountains visible in the hazy distance.
Crater Lake, Oregon. That blue is something you can’t prepare for. Some places just make you stand still for a minute.
Landscapes like this make the journey memorable.

Reminds me a bit of #CraterLake in #Wasington. Been to both places as a kid twice and many, many times as an adult. You're next-door which makes it easy.
So LUV nature and the beauty of the #PNW.
Is Crater Lake visible today? Sometimes the lake is hidden by clouds, especially in the winter. This view looks north across the lake from the Sinnott Overlook at Rim Village (elevation 7,100 feet). On a clear day, it takes in Wizard Island, Llao Rock, and Mount Thielsen. Image updates every 4 to 6 minutes.

This image captures a scenic view of Crater Lake within Crater Lake National Park in southern Oregon. Formation: The lake is located within a massive caldera formed approximately 7,700 years ago following the violent volcanic eruption and subsequent collapse of Mount Mazama. Unique Features: It is the deepest lake in the United States, reaching a depth of 1,943 feet (592 meters), and is renowned for its incredibly clear, deep blue water, which is fed entirely by rain and snow. Wizard Island: Visible in the center of the lake, Wizard Island is a volcanic cinder cone that emerged after the initial collapse of the mountain. Landscape: The surrounding caldera walls rise nearly 2,000 feet above the water's surface, and the area features old-growth forests, including various coniferous trees like the Mountain Hemlock and Abies (firs) seen in the foreground. Visitor Information: As Oregon's only national park, it is a popular destination for its breathtaking vistas, hiking trails such as those along the Rim Drive, and its status as a pristine natural wonder.
Crater Lake (Mazama) overlook.
I don't think it's possible to take a bad picture up there.

A breathtaking high-angle landscape of Crater Lake at sunset. In the foreground, a steep, sandy, and rocky slope is dotted with evergreen trees. A single deer is visible on the slope, looking out toward the water. Below, the deep, ink-blue water of the lake surrounds Wizard Island, a volcanic cinder cone. In the distance, the rugged caldera rim is partially shrouded in soft, white clouds that are spilling over the edge like a waterfall. The sky above is a pale blue, streaked with thin clouds illuminated with soft gold and pink hues from the setting sun.
Caught a local enjoying the view at Crater Lake. 🦌 Watching the clouds spill over the caldera rim as the sun sets is an experience that stays with you. Oregon, you’re showing off again.

Went to Crater Lake for the sunset colors. Wildfire smoke had other plans.
Converted to B&W and found this tree at the rim. One of my favorite frames I've taken, and I almost didn't stop here at all.

Imagine a lake so deep, scientists still can't map its bottom - it's literally a mysterious world unto itself!
