A monochromatic image of a massive upright cliff. The sunlight is strong and from the left out of frame. An iconic cliff face rising high above the viewer with a small cloud near it's top in the otherwise empty skysky. Overall the vertical cliff is dominant in the image. It has a prominant fissure horizontally across it's midpoint, but most of the features are cliff faces rising up the monolith. There are subtle side to side layered lighter shaded bands. In the mid foreground at bootom of the image is an entire ridgeline of rugged, jagged looking sandstone spires completely shaded from out of frame to the left. And in front of them is a nearby rubble and dirt strewn hillside catching the light once again, with abundant brush poking between the boulders.

This sandstone wall has horizontal lines from layering of the rock, vertical lines of different colors (beige, gray, black, pink, white) from water, and the start of an arch along the top.
So much is going on with this sandstone wall on the Emerald Pools Trail: the beginnings of an arch, varied horizontal rock layering, and so many colors of desert varnish.
