Love the concept of #NationalNestboxWeek. We were at a local gathering of community recreation groups last Saturday, and our #Landcare Group stall featured nest boxes made by members of a Ballarat Men's Shed, and plans for nestboxes. Robust in design, but not as architecturally stylish as yours!

In the realm of #environmental / #conservation work, let's have some #Landcare field trials. We so easily spread #microplastics, e.g. by slashing weeds with #plastic line.

This #tussock grass (Poa labillardieri) is native to southern #Australia, & we use it a lot in all-indigenous #Landcare revegetation plantings. Here in our garden it's teamed with exotic species - Liriope, Lychnis & Hippeastrum. The kind sun of early summer sets off the fountain of tussock flowers.

Jerrabomberra Wetlands #landcare day. Because November is turtle breeding month, we just did turtles today. Turtles lay eggs and then they hatch when it rains, but foxes are a problem so we cover nests with chicken wire, then when it rains we try to get to as […]

Done all my homework for tomorrow's assault on the Australian National Botanic Gardens' native plant sale. A popular twice yearly event, it's best to get there at dawn, with helpers (if you want LOTS and we do), with equipment (trays and trolleys), with your list, and with very sharp elbows. The […]

Abundance returns to wetland after man-made sheep pasture removed A sheep farmer has welcomed the restoration of an internationally significant wetland on his property outside of Hobart. The collaboration of a non-profit organisation with landowners, scientists, the Aboriginal community and governments has allowed the return of a vital ecosystem.

As wetlands go, RAMSAR classification is the gold standard. We can only dream, at Jerrabomberra Wetlands. Bravo Tassie!

A superb example of the value of ongoing, regular water testing as part of a #CitizenScience program, in establishing links between monitoring water quality, calling out pollution and protecting biodiversity. #Landcare #platypus

The wonderful Dr Michael Mulvaney guiding about 40 locals around remnant bushland behind residential Pearce, ACT. We're learning about trees, grasses, birds, insects etc and it's fascinating. #landcare

3. The sad fact is every extinction under their mad rush to clear & mine habitats will have Watt's name, not the Opposition's, on it. And, lest he beat all the blame, our generation's shame will be in the stewardship we failed to enact while we could.
Ah well, off to do #Landcare stuff again...

Between the national conference & awards, September was a big month for the #Landcare community.
Delighted to see three of the Victorian finalists get the nod, including Bryce Watts-Parker, Tavish Bloom and the Merri Creek Management Committee.

Hi @csiropublishing.bsky.social . Does anyone produce posters on specific types of plants, animals, etc anymore? Useful for groups like #Landcare for whom #BiodiversityMonth is a celebration of year-round effort.

I am definitely not a gardener so I am going to call my 'exploits' land care. So... A busy day of land care today. Compost storage made. Old clearance wood/whins/gorse burnt, but a pile left for chipping. Also started the base for the woodshed ! #landcare #highlands #woodshed

The great abandonment: what happens to the natural world when people disappear? The long read: Across the globe, vast swathes of land are being left to be reclaimed by nature. To see what could be coming, look to Bulgaria

A beaut article from @tessairini.bsky.social for @theguardian.com - example on the story is from Bulgaria, but the relevance is worldwide, including to #landcare 🌳 in Australia.
