"The only way I will rest in peace is if one day transgender people aren't treated the way I was. They're treated like humans, with valid feelings and human rights. Gender needs to be taught about in schools, the earlier the better. My death needs to mean something. My death needs to be counted in the number of transgender people who commit suicide this year. I want someone to look at that number and say, 'That's fucked up' and fix it. Fix society. Please." -Leelah Alcorn
On January 6th, Paint your ring finger PINK for Leelah and the trans community. Spread this like wildfire! EVERYONE. It doesn't matter if you are the manliness man ever. Paint it so someone asks "What's with the pink?" and you can explain. Over 41% of transgender people attempt suicide because of rejection and transphobia.
This is a community graphic in period for Ms Leelah Alcorn - Rest in peace lazer princess - 1997-2014
This image shows the only physical location where she enjoyed the opportunity to express how she visualised herself. Department store changing rooms. Leelah is in a two piece outfit light blue short sleeved top combined with above knee dark royal blue skirt. The security tag & price tags are visible. The second image shows Leelah in white dress with royal blue midlife (waistband) and halter top royal blue under arm detailing and two matching shoulder straps. In both image Leelah is side on piloted at hip with one hand on her right hip and her left hand holding her camera phone. In the skirt she smile with satisfaction. In the skirt she seems happy with how it sits but perhaps a bit skeptical on the design which, to my mind isn't as subtle as it might have been. I lovely lassie having harmless fun with her look. Terrible loss for us all 💔 🙏
#LeelahAlcorn no longer exists. With her death, her parents fully erased all trace of her in their 'universe'. Leelah exists only in our community minds, she was fully denied her community; with full removal of laptop, phone & free unsupervised computer access. She left a post mortem message for us.
