Thirty paintings in Thirty Days 'Being Human' Day 28: 'All the World is a Play' This painting and its title was inspired by Shakespeare’s profound quote, “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.” In this caricature painting, I thought about the theatrical nature of human existence and how we all take on different roles throughout our lives. Each role starts and ends, and a new act of the play begins. Shakespeare wrote these words in his play "As You Like It " which showed us performative aspects of life. Each phase of life brings its own stage, childhood, adulthood, old age, and with it, different characters that we portray. Being human means embracing our roles fully that we play at these different stages of our lives. We wear masks in different situations and play along with the expectations and narratives set by society. This painting expresses the beauty and sometimes crazines of our performance, the laughter, the heartaches, and the lessons learned through the act of living.
