International Long Covid Awareness
Today is the last day of International Long Covid Awareness Month, but for millions of people suffering from Long Covid, this is not the end of anything. It is ongoing, daily, and life-altering.

Long Covid continues to impact peoples’ livelihoods and futures, yet the global response still falls incredibly short. Governments and healthcare systems must do more!

We saw many buildings/landmarks lit teal for Long Covid, politicians speaking about Long Covid, proclamations, resolutions, and demonstrations. Awareness is important and creates a base of knowledge we hope continues to spread. What we need to see further is real and immediate action from our governments, health agencies, researchers, and medical fields!

We need more than words. We urgently need prevention. We need care. We need tests. We need treatments. We need solutions!

Long Covid must be recognized for what it is: an international public health emergency that needs dedicated funding and support.

Grateful to all the Long Covid patients who have worked so hard to raise awareness this month. Your voices and efforts matter so much!
A heartfelt thank you as well to the allies, caregivers, and supporters who stand beside this community, we appreciate you more than words can express!

Long Covid awareness is every single day. For some, that means using whatever limited energy we have to push through the year to keep working on awareness projects behind the scenes or continuing to raise awareness in our daily lives, all while managing appointments and getting through each day with our symptoms.

We’re starting planning for next year now, so please start sharing your ideas and suggestions for 2027 International Long Covid Awareness Day/Week/Month!

As we wrap up another Long Covid Awareness Month, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all those with Long Covid, advocates, organizations, allies, and voices who came together to raise awareness worldwide. Your efforts are driving the continuing push for change and highlighting the urgent need for action for everyone impacted by Long Covid. The road is rough and it doesn’t stop here— we’ll all keep raising awareness every day, whether it’s online, at medical appointments, in emails to government officials, in conversations with friends and family, or in any way we can. Because we know COVID doesn’t discriminate, & anyone is at risk of developing Long Covid.

Covid is not over. Each new variant brings with it a wave of long COVID. We are millions around the world - we exist. Long COVID unites us.

There is no cure for this systemic disease: at best, we have temporary fixes for some of the symptoms. This disease can affect anyone, regardless of age, social status or nationality; women are disproportionately affected, facing greater risk at work and often having their symptoms dismissed as psychological. Chronically ill and disabled people are at higher risk, and their health issues accumulate. Children also suffer, often in silence. But everyone is at risk, without any exception.

New cases emerge every day, as reinfections continue. 1 in 10 people at least : Long COVID cannot be written in the past tense, even though most institutions have chosen to erase and minimize the pandemic.

You likely know a close one suffering from it.
Even if you don’t know it, you could be affected by it too: long COVID also means all the diseases that are induced by SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Five years in, we still do not know all the consequences of the pandemic. What we already know should be enough: some died in the acute phase, others later on, or slowly, from the chronic form of the disease and/or of the social death it brings along.

We have lost health, jobs, friends, family, social rights...
New cases emerge every day. We can’t manage it by ignoring it.

As of today, March 15, 2025, 5 years after the start of the pandemic, we are denouncing the lethal silence on the COVID epidemic still going on, and claim our rights.

I HAVE THE RIGHT TO TREATMENT AND CARE :

          • Urgent clinical trials focused on the treatment of causes and mechanisms: thromboinflammation, viral persistence, dysimmunity.
          • Recognition of the disease’s severity, whatever shape it takes, and management of the risk of complications.
I want doctors to think about the risks of my persistent infection, my life
expectancy, as for other chronic diseases.
          • Biomarkers for diagnosis and monitoring treatment efficacy.
          • Rapid, effective tests and preventive treatments to minimise the harm caused by the infection.
          • Access to trained doctors and nurses, with coordinated, multidisciplinary care pathways and safe healthcare facilities that don’t make us navigate aimlessly from one consultation to the next.
I live with long COVID, and I need to be able to be seen by healthcare staff that are commited to treating our illness more than silencing our complaints
