A couple of kids, busy being storytellers, narrating their scenes for other kids who are being the listeners.
PM #StoryStudio w/ K class: using #LooseParts to build any story they wished, perhaps inspired by our outdoor learning field trips into nature, but open to anything…extremely well-focussed, totally engaged, great at being both storytellers/listeners, fantastic at clean-up.

This morning in the library:
A squirrelly Gr 1 group came w/ a replacement teacher (so were extra wild), but got somewhat focussed once building their #LooseParts treasure map stories…then, turns as listener/storyteller…but, not so sure that major quality happened for this #StoryStudio session…
A bunch of loose parts building items laid out on a table in their separate bins: plastic shapes blocks, straws and connecters, pipe cleaners, gems that are clear or green or blue, little rolls of burlap, twigs and wooden sticks, etc…
More loose parts, bins: popsicle sticks, ribbons of different sizes and colors, little wooden nonrepresentational people like figures, clothes pins, Cuisenaire rods, etc.
A close-up of one kids loose parts setting-– it’s built on an 11 x 17 sheet of construction paper, which is what we used to contain their scene so it doesn’t spread so far that no one else can build —with other kids’ story scenes spread out on the floor nearby.

Today in the library: Gr 1s were doing #LooseParts creations of settings, with two chosen plastic animals, then making up oral stories with those characters…share story with at least one other student, then we took photos, which will be printed later for writing out their stories in class tomorrow.

Some little bins from the cart mentioned in the post: a bin of pine cones and sticks, one with slices of a thicker branch so that you can see the rings of tree growth, a bin of various rocks, polished and raw, plus, a bin of seashells. Also visible is a laminated pamphlet called British Columbia birds, plus some books from our non-fiction section about ladybugs, mushrooms, beavers…
Table top: A book made by former student teachers called a walk in Sardis Park that is all about the plant and wildlife of our local park being used as reference material. Also visible is a large 11 x 17 page that we folded into various size boxes and you can see a child’s drawing of a dandelion flower and sea puff , pinecone, design, etc.
Tabletop: Visible is part of an 11 x 17 page with several boxes of nature observation drawings; next to it is a fan out reference booklet of tree types that feature the leaves at the top of a long bookmark style entry about the trees. It also shows their bark.
