I've been asking the Government probing questions about the supposed independence of #LordWalney 's advice since October.

He advised government to treat climate protesters as extremists, while having clear financial links to oil and gas companies 🤔

Having sat through every minute of the appeal for the #LordWalney16 at the Royal Courts on Weds & Thursday here’s a thread of what happened, my view of what the result will be & examples of what an arse the law is. Does justice exist or is law a tool of state subjugation?🧵1/n

You may have heard about some of the draconian anti-protest laws that have been creeping into our legal system, but have you heard of the #LordWalney16?

They are a group of activists given prison sentences, by the infamous Judge Lord Walney, for protesting peacefully about climate change..

There were reputedly 10,000 people (at Newbury) then, 1 for every tree destroyed, & haven't WE grown? But unsustainable growth can't continue on a finite planet. New airports, the war on bats & newts, the brutal treatment of the #LordWalney16 is deeply insane. We must keep standing up for nature 2/3

Climate activists ‘did what they did out of sacrifice’, appeal court told Lawyers invoke philosophies of Hannah Arendt and Henry David Thoreau in bid to have long sentences of 16 protesters quashed

At the appeal, lawyers quoted Hannah Arendt - “Civil disobedience arises when a significant number of citizens have become convinced either that the normal channels of change no longer function and grievances will not be heard or acted upon.”

Massive turn out to protest against the draconian sentences handed to peaceful climate activists fighting for the health of this planet. Loads of police too. Last time I felt alarmed by the police was in the dictatorship Belarus. Where they also lock up peaceful demonstrators. #LordWalney16
