Collaboration key to success - #mCDR insights💡
Prof. Phil Renforth (bsky.app/profile/did:...) has shared his reflections on the sessions he joined and chaired at #OSM26: seao2-cdr.eu/news/my-firs...
His key takeaway? Marine carbon dioxide removal needs true interdisciplinary collaboration.
Our April (16/04) #ThirdThursdayScience webinar will be on 'Potential impacts of climate interventions on marine ecosystems' with speaker Kelsey Roberts from University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Cornell University. You can find out more & register here: www.marineboard.eu/events/poten... #mCDR
Deep ocean observing strategy now includes habitat mapping, accessible ocean technology, etc.
And the business case and finance for regenerative use of the deep ocean. Including marine biotechnology, ocean based energy and #mCDR!
At the heart of our cohort programs is connection.
We bring together diverse perspectives so people can learn from each other and carry that impact into their work, communities, and the broader field.
The ripple effects is what it's all about. 💫

In summary, all biotic mCDR leads to marine O2 loss ... abiotic methods tries to avoid biological impacts, but not sure if that is true in space ... so oxygen should be measured if #mCDR methods are tried!

Ocean iron fertilization as a #mCDR method - field trials that took place, and it showed lots of phytoplankton blooms but did it actually remove carbon for any time, and not sure how durable it was. There are also International Governance that talks to this the #LondonConvention and #LondonProtocol
so they studied the question: will #mCDR help with deoxygenation? asking the question what would be the net impact of #mCDR on ocean oxygen?
noting that the models that can be used here are already underestimating the deoxygenation due to climate change! And coastal blue carbon systems don't help
Today the @emarineboard.bsky.social #ThirdThursdayScience webinar features Andreas Oschlies @geomarkiel.bsky.social who will be talking about the Potential impacts of #marine carbon dioxide removal #mCDR on #Ocean Oxygen - linked to 2 of our documents ...

The #mCDR conversation is hapenning. Our report on MRV for mCDR gives 9 recommendations for scientists and practitioners. To ensure rigorous, evidence-based approaches, Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (#MRV) must be at the centre of the discussion. More here: www.linkedin.com/feed/update/...
