A federal judge on Thursday questioned Meta Platforms' argument that it can legally use copyrighted works without permission to train its artificial intelligence models.

As someone who had his books stolen by #MetaBookThieves I have “thoughts” on this. As my Masters students found out recently.

third party AI services, w/ implications for personal data those services ingest. Then we also have the Q of extended AI search summaries & whether they = fair use. Then we also have the issue of theft of property of authors & artists etc by AI companies - one example is #MetaBookThieves

It’s a long overdue review .. but needs to go beyond Google to the broader substantive issues of AI services access to search index data .. but yes, also, the imo, theft of property (the example of #MetaBookThieves)
