My 8255 rewrite seems to have fixed the keyboard weirdness & cursor blink speed issues on the #MZ700 emulation. It also seems to have sorted the glitches I still had with the #MZ80K keyboard. The new emulation is more efficient, so I may be able to drop the Pico clock speed another 10MHz or so ...

I think I may have found the weirdness in the keyboard handling today. Looks like I may need to rewrite my 8255 emulation as it could also be the root cause of my cursor blink speed issues. More investigation needed however. #RetroComputing #Sharp #MZ700 #PicoMZ

Emulator output on the left - 8m 36s for the primes below 10,000. Real machine output on the right- 8m 34s for the same task.
Running the emulator at 200MHz is a definite improvement - it's only 2 seconds slower than the real thing for the primes up to 10,000.

The screen for the Pico MZ-700 is on the left, above the real MZ-700. The output for the real machine is on the right. They're both running endless prime number calculations using the same BASIC program. The emulator is currently too fast!
Sunday afternoon benchmarking session. A real MZ-700 vs my emulator. The emulator is currently 20% or so too fast when running on a 220MHz Pi Pico. Should be easy enough to slow down!!

Using my trusty Sieve of Erastothenes program plus some trial and error, it looks as if overclocking a Pico to somewhere around 210 - 220MHz will work nicely for the #MZ700 #emulator

Progress with the Pico #MZ700 #Emulator. Colour output works & I have a reasonable USB to MZ700 keyboard map.
Next up - timings (can I really emulate a 3.5MHz MZ700 on a Pico or is a Pico2 required) & the banked memory implementation, completely different to the MZ-80A.

Sharp MZ700 monitor announces itself for the first time on my Pico mz platform. Colours are wrong, as is everything else, but it's a start.
It's a start! Hacked the monitor into my mz80k/a code and it runs up. Now comes the painstaking stuff - keyboard mappings, colour, clock accuracy etc etc etc ... #RetroComputing #Sharp #MZ700

I'm not able to take part in #RetroChallenge this year, but I've just spent a few minutes enjoying last year's writeup of my #Sharp #MZ80K emulator for the #RaspberryPiPico . The plan for winter is to have a bash at #MZ700 emulation - faster clock & colour too!
