My #cycad has 2 huge fruit cones this year
#Bananaforscale 😁
Didn’t plant it but given the size, think it must be #Lepidozamia peroffskyana #ScalyCycad, not endemic to Sydney. But cycad taxonomy isn’t my strong point - corrections welcome.
(Fronds & cones are too large to be #Macrozamia lucida.)
Is it a fungus? Nope they are coralloid roots of #Macrozamia riedlei! These roots grow up instead of down so that they can get to the surface for their mutualists! These are usually a species of Nostoc, a Cyanobacteria, that can fix nitrogen for the plant! #WildOz (photo:2022)
