Love the charge to speak directly about learning strategies & metacognition!
I did some of this type of work w/my Latin 101 students this quarter. Besides talking about study strategies, I provided articles (& my take-aways) about why the strategies work.

Used my two new examples today to teach subjective and objective genitives:
Subjective: the judgement of Paris
Objective: the abduction of Helen

Bizarre mnemonic to teach the Latin word IGITUR, which means therefore. Some lady named Iggy pictured with the word IGITUR on her forehead, highlighting the fact that the syllable fore appears in the meaning of igitur and in the word forehead.

(P.S. I can't get any of my kids to respond to my GenX pop culture question: is that lady problematic or am I okay to include her on a slide?)
Latin sentences with questions about forms of the phrase "my wife." To the right of the sentences is a small picture of Borat with a toga superimposed over his torso.
I did another terrible thing. Will no one stop me. Truly, I have no shame. #MagistraGetsToTeach101
(the students seemed to very much appreciate the mnemonic for -ed verbs; I would write this part in 8-point font if I had such functionality on this website)
Slide teaching students how to translate the imperfect tense from Latin: Imperfect Tense Translation. Broadcasting from…WKUB-ED. or translate with -ED if an adverb like saepe or semper indicates ongoing action. Pictured: Ed Sheeran sitting at an old-fashioned microphone that says WKUB, which stands for "was, kept, used to, began to."
I'm a little embarrassed but also shameless

Added some snippets of Cicero and Plautus to my drive folder of very simple authentic readings coordinated with Wheelock chapters. drive.google.com/drive/folder...

Time to work on the Canvas site, which I am told has 95 (!!!!!!!) accessibility errors, most of which are color-related. Let’s see what damage I can do to those errors. (To this point, the majority of the site is imported from last time I taught 101 and not yet updated.)

First page of a syllabus formatted more like an invitation than like a legal document. There is first- and second-person language, color graphics, bold and italic text, bullet points, paragraphs, and rhetorical questions. There are also two friendly arrows.
Working on a syllabus that doesn't look like an insurance policy or an apartment lease...
Thinking about all I have learned this summer from @cjdenial.bsky.social, @apistone.bsky.social, & @ellenleephd.bsky.social and looking forward to more thinking about inclusivity.
