Makin, he’s got a great instinct for when interesting things are going to happen and a horrible instinct for making money.

The Sun reported on Friday 8th that a former senior @churchofengland.org bishop is being investigated over an allegation of historic sexual assault, alleged to have taken place in 1984. He has not been charged or convicted. Is there any more that’s emerged on this?

#AndrewCornes et al will potentially face a CDM, as the new #ClergyConductMeasure perhaps won’t become law till 2026.

Cornes needs replacing on the #CrownNominationsCommission now. Abackup is needed for the appointment process for the next #ArchbishopofCanterbury

Evidence: here’s one of the mentions of @churchofengland.org Crown Nominations Commission member, #AndrewCornes, in the #Makin Review.

In 2021 @Graham1munro.bsky.social raised this re #JohnSmyth.

#AndrewCornes was one of those who knew.

Now, in 2025, believe it or not, Cornes is *still* a member of the central #CrownNominationsCommission, set to choose a successor to #JustinWelby (who resigned for so much less). #Makin #CofE

This is an excellent piece by Andrew Brown in which he sets out clearly many of the concerns I have felt about #Makin. It is an important read for anyone concerned with truth and justice for all concerned.

I absolutely agree with what is said in this article and #Scolding How is it the #Pilavachi abuses are not being given proper airtime? What I cant understand is how it’s not being properly linked with #Makin - so many similarities and from the same culture and theology #CoEPeeps

#Symth’s #abuse was appalling.
The #coverup was as bad.
The church and the #police failed.
#Justin was right to resign & more should go.
#Makin report is seriously flawed.

Delighted that Pastor Tim has driven his Lexus over to Blue Sky.
He’s wondering what we’re all wondering about the con evos. Why aren’t #C4News, Cathy Newman et al banging down the doors of the Titus Trust & all their allies over the years to hold them accountable?

Gosh, when you discover people you cared for, knew about abuse and covered it up for years. How do you process that?

No excuses, no 'I'm sure they had good intentions/were misunderstood etc'.. Survivors & victims come first & I'll stand with them.

What an awful mess.

It is unbelievable that there have been no further resignations after Makin report. Silence seems to be golden amongst most bishops and the Archbishop of Canterbury does not go yet! What an appalling state of affairs.

Keith #Makin suggests investigation of CofE staff who knew of John Smyth’s abuses but failed to act or follow up.

Should this extend to the governors and senior staff at Winchester College, former trustees of the Iwerne Trust, overseas bishops, and the five police forces that were notified?

@richardcoles.bsky.social I just read your excellent piece in The Times re #Welby, #CoE and the #Makin fallout - superbly articulation of the problems still to be addressed!
