Fallen firefighter memorial

#OTD in 1949, #Smokejumper Joseph P. Sylvia of Plymouth MA suffered fatal injuries in the #MannGulchFire at Helena National Forest in Montana. He was one of 13 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice when a change in the wind led to a blow-up covering thousands of acres in just a few minutes.
