This image shows a large manta ray gliding gracefully through deep blue ocean water. The manta is viewed from underneath and slightly behind, highlighting its wide, triangular wings that taper into pointed tips. Its body is pale with soft, reflective light patterns from the water’s surface, giving it a glowing appearance. Two forward-facing, horn-like fins extend from either side of its broad head, resembling open arms or curled antennae. A long, thin tail trails behind, adding to the sense of movement and elegance. The deep blue background gives a sense of vast, open ocean surrounding the solitary manta ray.
Big Island, Hawaii, 2009. A freediving workshop with Martin Stepanek. A few of us went out and looked for big animals. This Oceanic Manta was so curious. At the surface looking down it flipped on its back and swam swam with me - Magic.
