Reproduction of 12th century red silk bliaut (dress), the photo shows the neck opening with the yoke made from dark blue silk with embroidered rondels on it in red silk laid work and gold surface couching. The yoke is surrounded by freshwater pearls.

red silk fingerloop braided lacing cord is laid out in a couple of loops on a white cushion

I made this lacing cord and found making it so tedious I still haven't made a second one, and I definitley need two. 😆 The deadline is looming (and it's only been 5 years since) #MaterialEngagement

On the right, draped over the kitch faucet of an incidentally yellow glass kitchen sink (I love my crazy kitchen sink!) is the dyed fabric, all wet and crinkly. The fabric is silk but looks pretty messy in that state.

Re-creating medieval clothes: c.1350 example of colours, sleeves and buttonholes. With medieval clothing colours being not subtle nor matched (if one could afford it) I wanted a bright yellow silk as facings for the blue wool cote. Thus I dyed some ivory leftover silk. #MaterialEngagement 🧵 1/6
