MAX YASGUR Max Yasgur was forty-nine years old in 1969 and had lived near the town of Bethel for most of his life. His dairy business supplied milk to many of the local residents, and the festival grounds included fields that had only recently held much of his dairy herd. A staunch conservative and astute businessman, Yasgur had little in common with the four promoters, but he strongly supported their right to hold the festival.
