Today's #MomentofTranquility: Scotland's Dirleton Castle. Building began in 1240, Cromwell's army attacked it in 1650 and badly damaged it. The ruins were made into a central garden feature in the 1660's. Certainly better than a garden gnome.

A close-up of a historic stone wall on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, showing a cannonball embedded in the masonry. The wall is composed of rough-hewn stones in shades of brown, red, and black, with sandstone window frames contrasting against the rugged texture. The embedded cannonball stands out as a relic of past battles and sieges on Edinburgh Castle.

Right at the beginning of the Royal Mile, look up and you’ll spot a cannonball lodged in the wall - a silent reminder of Edinburgh Castle’s sieges and battles. 🔥🏰

A striking image of Torphichen Preceptory, the historic Scottish headquarters of the Knights Hospitaller of Jerusalem and Malta. The ancient stone structure, with its mix of medieval and later architectural features, is surrounded by old gravestones. The dramatic sky at sunset, with hues of pink, purple, and blue, adds an atmospheric and almost mystical feel to the scene. The building’s entrance is slightly ajar, hinting at the deep history within.
