The eastern screech owl or eastern screech-owl, is a small, nocturnal owl found in wooded areas of eastern North America. It has two colour variations: reddish-brown, and gray (pictured). This owl is known for its distinctive trilling and whinnying calls. It preys on small mammals, birds, and insects and nests in tree cavities. Five subspecies are typically recognised.

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)
