Giant statue of Ramses II at AbulSimbel. An astonishing place with monoliths carved facade & inner walls showing Ramses beating the hittites in chariots etc. Literally AWESOME.
Drifting down the Nile from Cairo to Luxor & on to Abu Simbel. Unchanged with dhows & white egrets as in the days of the Pharoahs. It gives one time to think about the eternal verities & life.
At Luxor suitably dressed for sightseeing in scorching sun. The avenues of carvings & the vast pillared temples are overwhelming. The Ancient Egyptians were a marvel, so advanced in 3,000BC in every way: medicine, architecture & construction, poetry & arts, fashion, goldsmithing & decorative arts, wall paintings, spirituality.
Me & Mark at the Pyramids. Surprisingly close to the suburbs of Cairo. Looking outwards the way this photo was taken you see the marvels of construction that are the pyramids. But turn the camera the other way & it’s rather ramshackle urban sprawl!

My 2nd trip down the Nile with my husband on a beautiful small boat. My fascination with Ancient Egypt has been a lifelong obsession & to see the temples, obelisks, vast carved columns & statues in situ, & tombs with the original painted colours still intact. Wonder
