I half expected the birds to find something that would lead to an investigation. I suppose there's still time for that in a future book. -- Book quote 'He was staring like he wanted to drag me back to his cave and lock me up. Strangely enough, that wasn’t a turn off like it would be with most guys.' -- Jordan Gage (Ricochet) Barrett suffers from PTSD. As sad as it was, I liked that we got to see him and all his warts. Of course, he's also a tad possessive and occasionally overbearing, but I didn't mind that part (mostly because he's fictional). 😉 Together, I liked how they mostly listened and tried to understand the other's concerns so they could move forward. It's possible that Ricochet needed a bit more patience, but I still loved them as a couple. I listened to the audio book. The narrators are Phillipa Miller and Michael Norman Johnson. I'm unsure why, but Phillipa wasn't meshing with me this time. I've listened to several books that she's done, and this is the first time I have said this. Michael continued to be exactly what I expected - good and easy to listen to. 🎧💚🎧 Story: 4 stars Narration: 3.5 stars Listening Speed: 1.8x H = late 20s to mid-30s (can't remember); h = 25

I love Sloane's strength and determination. I love how she works to rise above her circumstances, even without knowing how. He actions are admirable, and I love how she continues to work towards getting those she cares about to safety and keeping them safe and thriving. -- Book quote 'My whole life I’d been a part of this group. I was born into it. I didn’t intend to die here as well.' -- Sloane Hargrove The affections that grow between Rip and Sloane are deep and realistic (and hot), taking several weeks for them to trust one another in any meaningful way, sharing more and more of themselves one little bit at a time. I truly love how organic it is, especially when you consider the circumstances. I don't want to give anything away, but when the story returns to the clubhouse, I adore how welcoming the men and women are, how they work to be respectful of triggers, and more. If you're reading the series in order (recommended but not required), it was commented on in earlier books. I like how Capone's attraction to Tara hits him like a ton of bricks. For so long, she was just his president's daughter. Now that he sees her, unseeing her is impossible. I do appreciate that he keeps himself mostly in check until she hits that magical number. -- Book quote 'I’m the last person who should be following her around, especially after I reacted the way that I did. It’s like my subconscious took one look at Tara all grown up and decided she was mine.' -- Capone Capizzones This is darkish, but not in the expected way. Yes, there are enemies that knock on their door, bullets flying, but that is such a small part of this installment that it's easy to forget that this is a serious MC. The real darkness comes from the big C. That's all I'm saying on that. While I do like this, I was hoping for more MC action. The story is full of emotions as Capone and Tara navigate a slippery slope. I've spent days questioning my rating. On one hand, it's well written and engaging. On the other, it doesn't meet my expectations. I went in blind, as usual, and expected it to be more in line with the prior books. I'll think on it more, but 4/4.5 is still a good rating. 🤷‍♀️ I received an author's copy of the audio book. Even though a few Austin members make cameo appearances, prior reading of that series isn't required. There are several missteps between them. As it's mostly Priest making them, I love how Jenny stands up to him and gets him to see the err of his ways. He definitely gets in his own way a couple of times, but I like that he recognizes and course corrects, even if it does take him days or months. He does make up for it in spades when he finally sorts himself out. Oh, and the way that he worships her curves while repenting? Hot as H-E-🏒🏒 🌶😍 -- Book quote 'That wild hair was tamed into a ponytail and something inside of me was screaming at me to let it loose. To give it that wild ‘just fucked’ look.' -- Priest There is a plot line that continues from book one in this series, and will continue after this book. You can pick up enough to understand without reading >'Hush',< but my opinion is that reading in order is better. I do love Hush, so take that as you will. I do love them together, and the story that brings them into each other's orbits this second time around is sweet and scary. A few mysteries are solved, while others spring up. There are definitely dark elements to beware. There is also a lead-in for the next book, and I'm looking forward to Derek and Sloane. I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrators, Phillipa Miller and Michael Norman Johnson, are wonderful, but I do wish this were duet. (Book review) *Note: full review below but not in screenshot. ***DUET NARRATION*** >Breaking the Cycle?< Delilah and Royce "[The] Judge" Taylor do not have anything resembling a traditional romance. Honestly, there really isn't a lot of "romance" going on. Romps? Yeah, there are plenty of those, but there are strings to many of the encounters that occur with another. Yes, there's OM drama. Some serious drama. Drama that comes with a hefty dose of trigger warnings. <spoiler excluded here> I can't and won't deny that this is well-written, but it felt like 75% of the book was about one abusive relationship or another, and very little was left for relationship development between Royce and Delilah. My estimation may not be precise, but it's pretty close. I get that most of it was necessary to get the full effect of how an abusive relationship can start and spiral, but at that point, it was already on the long side for a romance, so why not give the MCs a more fleshed out ending? Even though we know Royce isn't like that with her, we don't really see beyond his caveman tendencies, which look a lot like her last relationship in many ways. Just my two cents. FYI - This doesn't appear to be published in ebook. At least, not on Amazon. It has zero bearing on my review, but I thought I'd share. I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrators, Sarah Puckett and Michael Norman Johnson, are fabulous in duet! I've enjoyed both in the past, so my expectations were set, and they delivered. 🎧💜🎧 Story: 4 stars Narration: 5 stars Listening Speed: 1.8x H = 35/39/40; h = 13/19/20

I also had someone in mind for it. That didn't go as expected, but Jamie "Seek" Simmons turned out even better. ❤️❤️ -- Book quote 1 'My eyes locked with Hush’s and the breath caught in my throat. He really was drop dead gorgeous. Mentally, I berated myself. There wasn’t time to be drooling over a sexy biker.' -- Seek I love this new chapter in Hush's life as we move from Austin to Tucson. The transition is made even easier, not that it was hard, with a drop in from a favorite TX couple. -- Book quote 2 'My dick kicked behind my jeans, because somehow her naturally husky voice had dropped in tone and I imagined that’s how she sounded in bed. My emotions were all over the fucking board and I couldn’t seem to bring myself under control. That almost never happened—anymore.' -- Hush I absolutely LOVE everything about this book: Seek's giant heart and great dogs, Hush's remorse and slow healing, Seek's ability to stand up to pretty much anyone, the mission of the MC, and all the rest. I am beyond curious as to how things work out with the desert drama and look forward to the next book. Prior reading isn't required (but well worth it if you can). Also as seems to be fairly normal for an MC series, they don't really get an HEA, but they are well on their way. I read along with the audio book. The narrators are Phillipa Miller and Michael Norman Johnson. Both do really good jobs. Duet narration is the only thing missing. Story: 5 stars Narration: 4 stars Listening Speed: 1.8x H = 51; h = 30
