This was where the Alresford line left the main Weymouth to Waterloo line. It closed completely just over a month over. The Didcot, Newbury and Southampton line also passed underneath at this point.

A sad and emotive day when I explored the Winchester to Alton line, closed three years earlier. Such a useful diversionary and alternative route should not have been closed, but electrified.
