While awareness and mindfulness are closely related and overlap in many ways, there are significant differences between the two. Understanding these differences can enhance your comprehension and support your practice. Firstly, awareness is innate. Some research suggests that awareness can develop even prenatally. You begin to cultivate it in infancy and further develop your perception as you grow. In contrast, mindfulness is a conscious choice. Secondly, awareness is constant. Once you cultivate awareness in infancy and develop it throughout your life, you will always be aware in your waking state. Mindfulness, however, is an intentional practice of awareness. You need to choose to practice mindfulness. Thirdly, mindfulness is rooted in the present moment. Awareness, on the other hand, can include memories of the past or thoughts about the future. Lastly, mindfulness involves assessing yourself and your surroundings with compassion and without judgment. Your awareness can be reactive. #mindfulness #awareness #mindfulawareness
