The text reads Changing Seasons. It’s the title of my new episode of season one what it means to be a multi-passionate entrepreneur. It resides on the platform Substack, specifically as written about the title, amandamottornartist.substack.com. Under that is my name, Amanda L. Mottorn and the date, December 7, 2025. Half of a painting I did is revealed. Several skinny gray and black tree trunks have snow on them on the right side the way snow would have hit them. A blue sky is between the trees. Whether transparent clouds or blowing snow is against the blue sky is unclear. In the midday trees bend over forming a tunnel for anyone who cross-country skis there.

When the season changes, something in us shifts too.

Letting go is tender — but the possibilities that follow are real.

New episode dropped.

Read, have a listen or both.

First snow in Pittsburgh (pictures later) equals great timing for heated floors in shared cozy spaces at my 1932 Artist Bungalow AirBnB.

This watercolor is from a path where my sister walks her dog. The area was once a private golf course and is now maintained by volunteers and Allegheny County Land Trust just near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Walking here feels like traveling to a special place in nature.

Like a fiction writer, I intersect truth and imagination. The blue was the paved area, with tall grasses and goldenrod bordering the trail. The paved area curved sharply at the end. A dead tree stood tall in its magnificence and spotted and striped colors, browns, reds, and whites coursed its trunk and limbs looking as if a trunk grew out of the green foliage.

I didn’t have ready access to water other than a tiny spray bottle to drench 2 paintbrushes, & the 2 watercolor palettes. Result: paint colors are darker and richer. The path is surrounded by mostly green - high grasses with touches of orange- i could never get my brush clean enough for the yellow paint I swirled my brush in to dot the goldenrod.

Behind all the plant life golden light from the end of the day pushed the lighter greens into focus, giving me a gift of light and how it transforms the scenery.

The sky on the right was that grayish-blue, the kind you think a storm is imminent but never comes, the patches of blue sky and sun dominating behind the green leafed trees.

This is my painting of the day, a 15 minute (or more) practice to be consistent and be at peace.

This watercolor was painted on a path where people walk their dogs just off the Churchill exit in Pittsburgh, PA. My sister walks my furry nephew here.

This abstract painting came from my imagination. Blue mountains, greenish-blue hillsides dots of yellow in the green fields, yellow grassy foreground with a thin meadow of orange color. Above the mountains a sunset of yellow and orange setting in.

This was last night’s painting of the day. I painted in Laurel Summit about an hour from Pittsburgh, PA. This acrylic painting came from my imagination. It’s either mountains or sea. Which is it for you?

A pleineir painting I did of summer’s green trees and forest reflecting on a glass like reflection of Keystone Lake in western Pennsylvania. The sky is mostly cloudy with bits of blue peeking out.

I painted this watercolor with acrylic (see tree trunks) in an hour. It’s part of my 15 minute daily painting practice. When I sit down in front of the lake, it feels impossible. I focus on shapes and color. Alas, here we are.

An abstract painting in reds and greens, orange and pale yellows with texture like wire screens for depth.

A close up of the painting where the wire screens texture is revealed. A spot of white is revealed after I’d closed the notebook and pages stuck together.

I do abstract paintings, too. I love playing with color opposites and mixing white and black with colors like red and green. Here Naples Yellow and Indian Yellow snuck in.
Adding textures like wire screens adds curiosity.

I’m holding the watercolor painting I was working on last night while showing what was to my opposite side at Keystone Lake.

I’m holding the watercolor painting I was working on last night while showing what was to my opposite side at Keystone Lake.

The finished watercolor painting. It was dark when I left the lake. I had finished before that. There are two tall green filled leaves on the left of the lake. And at the horizon a forest of trees. Individual tall grass nestled near the shoreline. Rocks hugged and picnic tables dotted where I painted all the way to the other side. The lighting changed as I painted. I leave myself creative grace using light and details while most is true as if writing a book. (Fiction can be 98% true but no one knows whether it’s fact or fiction.)

15 minute daily routine. Back at Keystone State Park, 30 minutes from Pittsburgh. Last night’s watercolor painting.

Painting is breathing.

Part of my #dailyroutine is taking a minimum of 15 minutes to paint. This was yesterday’s. It’s at Keystone Lake, 30 minutes from Pittsburgh, PA. It’s watercolor and charcoal pencil.

Painting is breathing.
