My last show at this year’s jazz fest. Wish we were allowed to take a few pics and a small clip.
Some artists are not to miss…Tommy Emmanuel is a guitar wizard, an incredible performer and an amazing entertainer 🔥🎶
#MontrealJazzFest Day 9 recs: shameless plug that I will be offsite, playing salsa dura with La Murga up at Ausgang Plaza, which you should all come to once the festival wraps for the night.

#MontrealJazzFest Day 8: Another day of very strong programming. Today is all over the map, quite literally!
5 pm – Rémi Bolduc Groove Quintet
6 pm – Beth McKenna
7 pm – MISC album launch at Foufounes Electriques OR Gentiane MG at Dièse Onze. Tough decision here. (1/2)

One concert tonight at the Jazz fest. The marvellous Holly Cole was excellent 🎶
#MontrealJazzFest Day 7 recommendations:
3:30 pm - masterclass w/ Derrick Hodge moderated by Marcus J. Moore (free, at 5e Salle)
5 pm - Carl Mayotte
6 pm - if you like earth: Christine Jensen Quartet; if you like space: No Cosmos
8 pm & 10 pm - Linda Oh
10 pm - Julius Rodriguez
11 pm - Magi Merlin
Obviously I haven’t seen everything - but I’m amazed that halfway through the #MontrealJazzFest I haven’t seen a tribute to or cover of Sly Stone.
Any of the paid concerts today at #MontrealJazzFest are worth your time & money:
Thundercat is a staple of the fest; I've still never seen live though I love his quartets; I have seen Frisell many times (and Jean-Duceppe might be my favourite theatre in Place-des-Arts complex)

Last show of the evening was the mind blowing guitar god/hero Matteo Mancuso. His trio is simply amazing 🤯🔥🔥🔥
Outdoor shows are free and you can film!!
The video maybe long but it’s worth it… if you like guitar. Focus is on Matteo.
I will post another video in the comments

Second show of the evening was the always excellent Avishai Cohen Trio. This time with a symphony orchestra.
No pictures/video allowed

Managed to catch 30 minutes of one of my fav saxophone player, André Leroux. Been following him since 1992 when he played with Michel Cusson & The Wild Unit.
Very good! 🎶

David Binney made his third appearance of the #montrealjazzfest alongside Rémi Cormier tonight. It makes me long for the days of the extended Invitation Series. Maybe FIJM can inaugurate an official Artist-At-Large like Newport or GroundUp?
#montrealjazzfest Day 5 recs: another day of serious FOMO decision-making.
3:30 - Nate Smith mini-set
6 pm - Andre Leroux
7 pm - Remi Cormier
7:30 pm - Nubya Garcia
8 & 10 pm - Marquis Hill Composer’s Collective
Rooftop view this weekend of International Jazz Festival site at Quartier des spectacles in #montreal. Summer nights in this city are the best! @qdsmtl.bsky.social #jazz #montrealjazzfest #mtljazzfest
And Ghost-Note, wearing James Brown & P-Funk on their sleeves, is the perfect dessert. #montrealjazzfest
#MontrealJazzFest Day 4:
There's always one day per festival where FOMO wins, no matter how much you try to see or hear. Today is that day. If you're a fan of soul music across the eras, tonight is your lucky night!
#MontrealJazzFest Day 3 recs:
6 pm - Frank O’Sullivan (free)
6 pm - Vijay Iyer & Wadada Leo Smith (I never thought I’d see the day where Jazz Fest books a pioneer of the AACM!)
8 pm & 10 pm - toss-up between tuba firebrand Theon Cross & Congolese powerhouse Naxx Bitota. Make sure you see both!
#MontrealJazzFest Day 2 recs:
6 pm – Benjamin Deschamps: No Codes
7 pm – Papagroove
9:30 pm – Blue Rodeo (no, definitely not jazz, but one of Canada's finest bands)
10:30 pm – Anomalie & Larnell Lewis duo at Gesù
Going to see Rhiannon Giddens. Excited! #montrealjazzfest
Poster for the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal. It shows an illustration of a black cat with big yellow eyes, an angel halo and wings, holding a stylized version of Montréal’s Quartier des Spectacles. The background of the poster is a gradient that goes from blue to orange at the as if it’s dusk, with other stylized buildings on the sides.
If you lived in Montréal in the 90s you know about the Jazz Fest cat (“Ste-Cat”). This year the festival commissioned local artist Chien Champion[1] to create the poster and the cat is back!
This is such an amazing 90s throwback.
