Not a Rian Johnson "head", but Wake Up Dead Man was pretty alright (even great at moments). Had an advanced screening available in order to write/ghostwrite my reviews, and yeah: It's easily the best one out of the Benoit Blanc/Knives Out film trilogy. Pretty fun popcorn movie.

Can NOT overstate how much I loved this episode of #MovieMindset, in which Will, Hesse & Louise Weard take a deep dive into two amazing early 90s films, The Crying Game and M. Butterfly. Flawless anyalysis, no notes. Is this the best episode of the best movie podcast? www.patreon.com/posts/mm38-9...

Art is not a reflection of reality, it is the reality of reflection.

How can art be attuned to the material realities of this world and thus contribute to the advancement of a socialist politics, when art itself is something largely immaterial, "a reality of reflection" ? If we agree that a socialist liberation can only come to fruition through direct action - real manipulation of our physical realities ( i.e community organizing, violence), then art - a thing that exists mostly in the invisible space between its audience and itself, an abstract emotional transaction - cannot contribute to this political enterprise, at least directly.

With La chinoise, Goddard is attempting to grasp at a "socialist theater," by which I think he is trying to make art that is fully aware of its own limitations within the broader context of the socialist liberation movement. Full review on letterboxd
